Chicho and Me
36"x27"
screenprint, kraft paper, stenciled and handmade abaca paper, yupo

My grandfather, Narciso “Chicho” García, was a tile worker in Harlingen, TX for most of his life. While the two of us differed in terms of professions, education levels, economic statuses, languages, and citizenship, we both worked with our hands daily to perfect our technique and craft. It is through the labor of art making that I find connection to my grandfather while also understanding and respecting the skill and technique of manual labor.
